8th graders

For TCAP week, we had 2 "buddy" classes that we got to send notes and treats to to wish them good luck on the test. One of the classes was Mr. Ripko's 8th graders. We got to go to their class to deliver notes before they started testing, then they came to our class to bring thank you notes and play with the kids. They all got to play dress up together and everyone had a blast. One student even tried to go back with her new 8th grade "best friend!"

The Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty visited!

This week, we learned about Lady Liberty. When know that she is on Liberty Island in New York City and was a present from France. The kids all drew their own pictures of the Statue of Liberty and wrote what they knew about her. Their work is hanging up on our bulletin board outside of class and it awesome. The kids did a great job with their drawing and writing!

Dessert Sushi

For cooking club, we made dessert sushi! It was so fun and easy. We made rice crispy treats for the rice, then used Swedish fish for the fish and a fruit roll up for the seaweed. We also rolled up gummy worms in a big, thin rice crispy treat and cut it up. They were so yummy!

WOW!

Since we have been looking at maps as our postcards from grandparents come in, I thought the kids might like to try our map of the United States puzzle. I put it out for indoor recess and we had a group of kids finish it!

Thomas Jefferson/Declaration of Independence

Signing the Declaration of Independence with our quills (feather I collected on the farm last summer attached to a pencil!) We then colored our papers yellow and smooshed them up some to make them look old. I love that some kids signed their name really tiny while others wanted to be like John Hancock and sign big!

Dr. Seuss' Birthday

No year is complete without celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday! We spent a whole day reading wonderful Dr. Seuss books, watching Horton Hears a Who, making our own Cat in The Hat rhyming words hats, eating cupcakes, and doing some Cat in the Hat addition. It was a great day!

Making shapes with our third grade buddies

Both our class and our buddies' class were learning about shapes at the same time. We were learning about faces, edges, and corners; and they were learning about points, angles, and sides. We decided to test our learning outside in a big group. The kids were with their buddy's and other 3rd grade/kindergarten pairs and had to listen to a shape being described, figure out what shape it was, then use teamwork to try to make it. It was great to see how everyone went about trying to get organized to make the shapes!
